Why do I read?

As a Language Arts teacher who also has a degree in library, I am an avid reader.  I read everything I can and in any genre.  I ask my students to read too, but I want them to know that I am reading right along with them.  I will try to list below all the books I read throughout the year that are grade-level appropriate for middle school students.  This is not a suggested reading list, but just books I have read or are currently reading.  I will even rate the books I've read, but only so my students know what I thought of them as they often ask!

I always make sure my students understand that they do not have to like every book or even a book that a friend (or a teacher) likes because it is a personal opinion.  The important thing is that they are reading what they enjoy!  However, I do encourage a little outside of their comfort zone reading.  This helps expand what they like and find new genres to enjoy!

Please feel free to contact me about these books if you have questions!

What I have read this school year...

*****

A book I thoroughly loved. This is not necessarily a statement on its literary depth but is instead a reflection of my enjoyment of the book.

****

This book was pretty great, but not the absolute best I've read.

***

This book was average.  I liked it, but not in the "best" category.

**

This book was okay, but I had a hard time making it through.  I certainly wouldn't read a sequel.

*

I did not care for this book at all.
